The Tricks to our Treats

Halloween is hands down one of the best holidays of the year. It is the time where everyone can be a kid again, make their dreams a reality for a day, and most importantly, overload on sugar and treats. But, these treats do not have to be limited to your typical store bought candy. And with Halloween being a little different this year due to COVID-19, it is the perfect time to make a treat of your own.

Dope Coffee’s very own Chel Loyd shares her tricks with us for one of her amazing homemade treats: Dope Coffee Ice Cream. Check out how you can enjoy this easy-to-make treat below.

 

Ingredients 

  • ½ tbsp Dope Coffee, ground fine
  • 1 pint creamy vanilla oat milk
  • ¼ cup pepita seeds, roasted and salted
    • + additional for toppings
  • 2 tbsp shaved chocolate or cacao nibs
    • + additional for toppings
  • Bowl or Waffle Cone

 

Preparation

  1. Add ice cream and all remaining ingredients into a bowl and mix together.
  2. Let the ice cream mixture sit for 5 minutes to infuse, then mix together again.
  3. For softer ice cream skip to #5.
  4. For harder ice cream, place mixture in the freezer to refreeze - 1 hour
  5. For best taste, freeze overnight
  6. To serve, scoop into a bowl or waffle cone.
  7. Top with additional pepita seeds and shaved chocolate or cacao nibs.

This trick makes 2 to 4 scoops of ice cream, at only 200 calories per scoop, and contains 13g of protein. And who said a sweet treat has to be bad for you? All of these ingredients have great health benefits. Oat milk ice cream allows for easier digestion, pepita seeds are good for omega 3s and have anti-inflammatory properties, the chocolate and cacao nibs contain antioxidants, and lastly, the coffee is a great metabolism booster.
