The origin

My first real cup of coffee was in a war zone.

Afghanistan, 2012. A Marine named Mike Loyd, a tiny café on a combat outpost, and a cup of coffee that did what nothing else could — brought people together across every line. He brought it home and opened a café in a town that wasn't built for him… then lost it to a hurricane.

He didn't quit. He and his wife Chel emptied their bank account, sold their home, and moved their family to Atlanta — and built Dope Coffee from nothing.

"Coffee builds community. And community is the answer to division."

The reclamation

Coffee is a Black thing.

Ethiopia gave the world coffee 6,000 years ago. Black gold. So where did the lie come from that we don't drink it? We're here to reclaim a birthright — to put a thousand faces of color behind the bar, owning it, pouring it, drinking it. Not just in the fields.

We sell coffee. But we get to you through hip-hop. Buy the album in a bag.

The movement

It's not about selling coffee. It's a movement.

Our 6,000-square-foot Atlanta HQ is a roastery, a tasting room, and a recording studio under one roof. We run DRIPSET, our quarterly hip-hop series. Every bag is a Digital Cultural Product — scan it, hear the music. Killmonger × MLK. The music is the marketing.

Roasted to order. Shipped fresh. Backed by us.

Not your cup? Reach out — we'll make it right. That's not a slogan; it's in our reviews. "UPS made a mistake… DOPE COFFEE took care of it, expeditiously."

"We emptied our bank account, sold our home, and relocated our family. Being an entrepreneur unveils all your weaknesses — and I want Dope Coffee to be a platform for Black culture and a catalyst for change."
